The Future of Opera MODO.

Detroit, MI - July 8, 2024 - Following the conclusion of the final production of ‘The Little Mermaid’ at the Matrix Theater, Danielle, founder of Opera MODO, has announced a significant decision regarding the future of the company. After thoughtful reflection and discussions, Danielle has determined that Opera MODO will undergo a transformation, signaling the end of its current iteration.

In a recent statement, Danielle expressed a deep sense of gratitude for the community's support over the past 10 years in Detroit where they have run, directed, performed and facilitated groundbreaking performances and works of art all without ever once having received a salary from their tireless work for Opera MODO. Most importantly, Danielle has felt the pull away from Opera in specific as an art form, as a community, as a medium through which healing and growth can occur.  Their job and mission to make change from within the art form has run its course.  Having received clear guidance, repeated rejection, continuous harm, and fresh new reasons to be done with Opera after their trip to Opera America this past June, they have discerned that they are no longer tasked with doing their part to “fix” or even to cultivate Opera.

Looking ahead, Danielle envisions a time of reflection, discernment, and reorganization for any entity that may succeed Opera MODO. Despite the impending void left by its departure, Danielle remains committed to serving Detroit's arts and performing communities in a new capacity, potentially carrying forward Modo's legacy of healing through representation and high-quality performances.

Join us for Opera MODO’s final production: The Little Mermaid, opening Tuesday, July 9th at The Matrix Theatre.
